Ottawa suite hotels... more space to enjoy your stay
Ottawa suite hotels are great places to stay because they give you more room to relax when you're back from your daily Ottawa adventures. You have a better home-away-from-home feeling for your visit.
They are especially nice if you are with your family and want to maintain your sanity, which can sometimes be tough in a too-small hotel room (if you're a parent, you know what I'm talking about).
Here are some Ottawa suite hotels that are close to the action and give you the space you need to stay happy.
Ottawa Suite Hotels - Les Suites
Les Suites Hotel
Les Suites is one of the Ottawa suite hotels
I watched go up from the ground to the landmark it now is, as you enter downtown Ottawa from Hwy 417 East. The location is very central at 130 Besserer Street.
It has big, modern, comfortable suites with kitchenettes to give you an above average, home-away-from-home feeling. If you like shopping, this is YOUR Ottawa suite hotel, since the Rideau Centre is just a few seconds away - great convenience.
Parliament Hill is just a 2-3 block walk up Rideau Street or through the Rideau Centre(recommended). The Byward Market and its great selection of restaurants, bars and shopping is just a couple minutes away.
Les Suites is a great place to stay if you're coming to Ottawa for Canada Day, the Ottawa Jazz Festival, the Ottawa Buesfest or the Winterlude festival. It's just a nice place to retreat to in the heart of the city.

But, there is one down side to the location. Just east of the hotel is a food shelter for the homeless. You will see some folks who are down on their luck hanging around.
I must say that I've walked there at all hours, many times, and never been bothered. But I won't suggest that you do that at night - it's better to play it safe, even in Ottawa.
Ottawa Suite Hotels - Albert Bay Suite hotel
Albert Bay Suites
The Albert Bay Suites is one of the Ottawa suite hotels that is loved for its BIG suites.
It's at 435 Albert Street which is on the western edge of the Ottawa downtown core, at the corner of Albert Street and Bay Street, hence the name.
It's a short 5-block walk to Parliament Hill. It's also close to many central Ottawa attractions including, the Canadian War Museum, the Supreme Court of Canada, the Currency Museum the Sparks Street Mall. It's a 10-15 minute walk to the Byward Market.
The surrounding area is not spectacular, however I recommend the Albert Bay Suites because of its spacious suites and closeness to downtown attractions.

Ottawa Suite Hotels - Marriott Residence Inn
Marriott Residence Inn
At 161 Laurier Avenue West, this Ottawa suite hotel
has an excellent location just 4-5 blocks south of Parliament Hill, depending on if you walk up Elgin Street(recommended) or Metcalfe Street.
The location is within easy walking distance to many Ottawa attractions including the Rideau Canal, the War Memorial, the Byward Market, the National Arts Centre and more.
This suite hotel is popular for the spacious suites and its kitchenettes which allow you to prepare your own meals. There are a couple groceries a few blocks away on Elgin Street.
And if you decide to take a break from cooking, then Elgin Street and the surrounding area have great choices for dining.

Ottawa Suite Hotels - Minto Suite hotel
Minto Suite hotel
Although the address of the Minto Suites hotel
is 185 Lyon Street, another main access is on 433 Laurier Avenue West, (that's the one I use). The location of the hotel is at the southwest edge of the Downtown Ottawa core.
It's a 10-12 minute walk to Parliament Hill and a 15-20 minute walk to the Byward Market. The location is among several newer office towers and residential condos in the area.
The facilities are quite spacious, modern and comfortable. On one occasion I visited the Minto suite hotel to see a relative who came as a nurse to disabled children who came on a trip to Ottawa. She told me the Minto suites was selected because of the space and modern conveniences they needed for their young patients.
The hotel has its own restaurant, the Prime 360, which offers steakhouse and seafood menu. It's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Plus, there are several other restaurants in the area.
This Ottawa suite hotel gives you a modern comfortable base for your stay in Ottawa.
It's within walking distance (or a very short cab ride) to Ottawa's downtown attractions.

Ottawa Suite Hotels - also recommended
The other Ottawa suite hotels I'll recommend are based on positive reports I've heard about them. In fact, our local paper, the Ottawa Citizen, did a full feature on the Cartier Suites hotel and how nice it is.
I can tell you that these two Ottawa suite hotels have excellent locations in the area called the Golden Triangle between Elgin Street and the Rideau Canal.
They are both within an easy 5-7 minute walk to Parliament Hill and 10-12 minute walk to the Byward Market.
