Ottawa attractions...
the most interesting places to see in Ottawa

Are you curious about other Ottawa attractions?

Many visitors come to Ottawa to see Canada's Parliament Buildings. And then they discover that there are many other interesting Ottawa attractions to explore.

Ottawa Attractions - View of Ottawa River and Gatineau River

These include a range of places from natural attractions to Canadian heritage attractions and other historic places.

Most of Ottawa's popular attractions are located close to the centre of the city. So it's easy for you to get to them, either by foot or by car.

Here are my recommendations, grouped for your convenience.

  • The best heritage Ottawa attractions...
As Canada's capital, Ottawa is a city of history and politics. Beyond Parliament Hill, some of the best places to get a sense of both are
Sussex Drive , Rideau Hall , Ottawa Rideau Canal locks and Laurier House .

  • Ottawa attractions - enjoy our famous waterways...
Ottawa was founded mainly because of the commercial value of the great rivers which meet at this location. Today, these natural gifts of water provide a soothing background for the buildings, homes and streets of the region.

The most famous of these are the ever-present Ottawa River, the Rideau Falls, the Rideau Canal and the Rideau River. Yes, I know... there is a lot of 'Rideau' in Ottawa.

  • The best 'people' places in Ottawa...
If you want to rub shoulders with the people of Ottawa, here are some places to go... the Byward Market or Sparks Street Mall.

  • The best places for live entertainment in Ottawa...
Two of the best places for live entertainment in Ottawa are the National Arts Centre and the Casino de Lac Leamy(formerly Casino de Hull) which is actually in Gatineau, on the Quebec side of the region.

  • The best Ottawa parks...
Ottawa is a green city... in Summer, of course!

There are several scenic parks in the downtown area and close by. These are great for picnics, jogging or just simply relaxing. They include Confederation Park, Major's Hill Park, Nepean Point and Jacques Cartier Park.

But the best Ottawa area park is Gatineau Park. Again, it's on the Quebec side. And the best place to experience Gatineau Park is at the Mackenzie King estate. The drive there alone is worth it.

  • Ottawa attractions - well known buildings...
Apart from the Ottawa's Parliament Buildings and our museums there are some other Ottawa buildings which are important on the Ottawa or Canadian scene.

These include the Bank of Canada, the National Research Council, the Supreme Court of Canada, the National Archives of Canada and Ottawa City Hall.

  • Real Ottawa neighbourhoods...
If you ever wonder where the 'real' people of Ottawa live, here are some interesting neighbourhoods to visit... Rockcliffe , Ottawa Westboro, the Glebe in Ottawa or Centertown Ottawa.

  • Ottawa's historic places of worship...
Here are some of Ottawa's oldest and best known religious landmarks... the Notre Dame Basilica in Ottawa , St Andrews Presbyterian Church and Christ Church Cathedral.

  • Curious about embassies in Ottawa?
As Canada's capital, Ottawa is home to the embassies of many countries around the world. Here are the embassies of a few well known countries that you should see...

      the Embassy of Russia,
      the Embassy of China,
      the Embassy of Saudi Arabia,
      the French Embassy,
      the British Embassy (High Commission),
      the Italian Embassy,
      the Embassy of Kuwait,
      the Embassy of Japan,
the Embassy of the United States

  • My favourite Ottawa monuments & statues
Here are the statues and monuments that are landmarks in Ottawa. Each of these is a unique reminder of important events and times in Canadian history...

The Canadian World War Memorial with the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Terry Fox Statue for the Terry Fox Marathon of Hope and the Samuel de Champlain Astrolabe at Nepean Point.

  • The Universities...
Are you a parent looking for a good university to send your teenager after high school? You may want to check out the campuses of Ottawa's universities... University of Ottawa and Carleton University.

As you can see, there is quite a variety of Ottawa attractions to explore. You can use this page as your guide.
