Ottawa museums...
enjoy Canada's best selection

Among the twenty-nine Ottawa museums you'll find the richest goldmine of museums in Canada. Twelve of these are Canadian national museums.

However, Ottawa museums cover such a wide range of subjects that you may have trouble deciding which ones to visit.

And let's face it, every museum in Ottawa may not be of interest to you. Plus, if you're travelling with your family, the decisions may get more complicated.

While you may be fascinated with Canadian history and politics, your kids will most likely be bored by this subject. They may want to see something 'really' interesting, like REAL dinosaur bones.

But don't worry because there are Ottawa museums enough variety to satisfy your curiousity.

Fortunately, many of the best Ottawa museums are within short travel distances of each other. So you can visit more than one in a day, if you want to.

But please don't rush from place to place. Take your time to enjoy the little trips.

Why?

Because Ottawa museums are located in some of the most scenic and prime settings in the city.

The buildings represent a fine collection of architecture. So you get to enjoy several benefits for your effort- nice locations, great buildings PLUS the richness of the collections inside.

Here are my top recommendations...

  • The Canadian War Museum - The new War museum in Ottawa has become number one on my list of museums. Deeply emotional. Fascinating exhibits. Well done.

  • The National Gallery of Canada - The place in Ottawa for art lovers of all ages and tastes - The National Gallery is a long-time favourtie of Ottawans and visitors alike.

  • The Canadian museum of Civilization - If you love great architecture and world class exhibits then this museum is a 'must visit'.

  • The Canada Aviation Museum
    - Even though I live close to this museum, it took my daughter's insistence for me to visit for the first time, a few years ago. Absolutely worth your time.

  • The Bytown Museum
    - This quiet museum is one of my favourites. The mind-boggling work which began at this location is what led to Ottawa becoming Canada's capital... in my humble opinion.

And here are my next recommendations...

  • The Currency Museum of the Bank of Canada
    - If you like money (...and who doesn't?) and want to learn about it's history, this museum is a unique place to visit.

  • The Royal Canadian Mint
    - Still on the money trail. If you are still curious about money and how it's is made, go to the Mint.

  • The Canadian War Museum

  • The Canadian Museum of Nature
    - Are you curious about Natural History? Then you'll want to visit this museum. Your kids will love it.

  • The Canada Science and Technology Museum
    - Everyone loves the many applications of science in our lives. Kids (of every age) enjoy the interactive exhibits of this museum

  • The Canada Agriculture Museum
    - Plants, animals and kids, close up. Locally known as the Experimental Farm, this is a family place if you're are curious about the science behind modern agriculture

Enjoy the best Ottawa Museums!
